My friend Fall

Fall makes me school-girl giddy.

Maybe it’s the cooler air. Perhaps it’s the richly creamy, Earth-drenching colors. I doubt it’s Friday night football frenzies, but the whole world seems to be excited, so that could be part of it, I suppose.

I don’t know what it is, but whatever it is, I like it!

Fall makes me want to prop open my windows. No matter how much I enjoy the smell of my Scentsy warmers and the feel of a well-cooled home in the Summer, there is nothing like the smell of a Fall breeze blowing away the closed-up, overly air conditioned, heat-soaked Summer.

Fall inspires me. I want to take pictures of beautiful Earth angels (luckily, two of the most dazzlingly gorgeous little girls in the world call me Mama, so that’s convenient). I have to feed my family, friends and neighbors until they pass pleasingly full and head straight into uncomfortably jolly. I need decorated pumpkins of all sizes and shapes in my yard, pumpkin cheesecake ice cream in my freezer, steaming, whip-topped pumpkin spice latte in my cup and Pumpkin Patch picturing trips on my calender.

Fall is my favorite time of the year! Can you tell?

Oh, Fall, I wait so impatiently for you through Winter’s heavy clothing, Spring’s green worship and Summer’s unbearable heat blanket. Fall, you are my friend, and I’m so glad you’re finally back.

Won’t you stay a little longer this year?

About Rebecca Mixon

If you attend my funeral, please wear red. Make sure my loved ones do not bury me in shoes, and make sure they don't let the undertaker make me look ridiculous. I want beautiful music and lots of storytelling. All that will be great once I'm gone from this Earth. But, while I'm here, give me my flowers while I live. It has come to my attention lately that we don't "give people their flowers" until it's too late for them to enjoy the beauty, the colors, the sentiment. I'm changing that. The people in my life will know how they are appreciated and loved, and they will smell the aroma of their flowers as often as I get the chance to tell them. This blog is about the blessings in my life. Mainly, it's about the people who keep my world spinning on a good axis and help me realize that work, bills and stress mean nothing. Family counts. The rest is just gravy.
